Who We Serve

We work with youths between the ages of 6-18 years of age.Big Brothers Big Sisters works with youth between the ages of 5-18 years of age. Our children are from primarily low-income, single-parent households, but can be from any situation and just be in need of a positive mentor. We work with children in High Point, Jamestown, Randolph and Davidson Counties.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a prevention agency that works with young children before major problems develop. Often time all that is required is someone to be their friend and pay attention to the important things in their lives.

Every little moment spent with a child in need creates a lifetime of memories. Things that may appear mundane and ordinary to us can create "magical moments" for our children. One story that we would like to share with you involves a Big Brother and his Little Brother.

The child's name is "John" and he has been matched with his Big Brother for over 2 1/2 years. They were recently interviewed for a story that appeared in our local newspaper. When asked what some of their favorite activities included, John immediately responded "going to Home Depot". He visited the store for the first time with his Big Brother a couple of summers ago. John loved looking at all the tools, ringing the doorbells, and just going up and down the aisles. His Big Brother says that since that trip he lets John help him around the house with projects, they work in the yard together, and he gets to use the tools on occasion.

Why was that so important to John? What made those things so much fun for him? It's because John lacked a male role model in his life. He was missing out on the things that we take for granted. Things that are ordinary for us like yard work, baking cookies for the holidays, decorating a giant Christmas tree, going furniture shopping, having lunch together at school, learning how to ride a bike, going for a long drive, visiting a hardware store, all may seem like normal activities. However, to a lot of kids, these are not normal occurrences and can make all the difference in the world.

Big Brothers Big Sisters generally has over 100 youth on our waiting list at any given time. We want to make sure that every child that is in need of a positive role model in our community gets one.

We can work with a school near you if need be. We can also match companies with schools near their offices. Please fill out an application or call our offices:
